Woodberry Forest School is one of the nation’s premier independent boarding schools for boys in grades nine through twelve. Located on 1,200 beautiful acres in Madison County, Virginia, near Charlottesville and Washington, DC, Woodberry is an all-residential school. We enroll approximately 400 students from the United States and abroad. Since our founding in 1889, Woodberry Forest has been recognized internationally as a leader in the education of boys.
The Associate Director of College Counseling is a critical member of a team including the Director of College Counseling, and College Counseling Assistant and Test Coordinator.
The Associate Director position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment. Woodberry college counselors work with students and families across all four years of high school, beginning with very general programming in the freshman year, and building toward a pairing of counselor and student in the fall of the junior year. The Associate Director will help students identify colleges of interest, support students in completing their applications, write thoughtful letters of recommendation, advocate appropriately for students, serve as a resource for parents, and participate in professional organizations, conferences, and college visit programs, both on and off-campus. The Associate Director will also serve as the point person for the continuing development of our sophomore college counseling curriculum.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a sense of humor. The role requires a desire to work closely with a range of talented students and a willingness to engage in the life of a residential school community. Candidates must be strong writers, good listeners, detail and deadline-oriented, and excited about working collaboratively with colleagues and students. A bachelor’s degree is required, as is professional experience in college admission and/or college counseling. As a member of a boarding school community, the Associate Director will also be involved in other aspects of school life.
Woodberry Forest School is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer

Woodberry is located in central Virginia about 45 minutes from Charlottesville and about two hours from Washington, D.C. Founded in 1889, it emphasizes an education based on intellectual thoroughness, moral integrity, and good sportsmanship.
