Hopkins School, an independent, gender-inclusive, college-preparatory day school in New Haven, Connecticut, with over 700 students in grades 7-12, is seeking an English teacher.
The faculty and staff at Hopkins are motivated by working with young people to instill lifelong love of learning, not only in their respective fields but also in alignment with the school’s mission to produce purposeful, ethically-minded learners, who embrace their responsibilities in the larger world. In support of this mission, candidates should demonstrate commitment to student-centered learning, culturally responsive teaching, as well as equity and belonging work.
The position includes teaching four sections, preference given to candidates with the experience or ability to teach at multiple grade-levels within a 7-12 curriculum. This full-time position also includes contributing to the student experience outside of the classroom, such as coaching a sport or academic team (matched with the candidate’s skills and experience) or working with students in the Academic Support Program.
Full-time faculty members typically serve as an adviser for a group of 6-8 students in one grade; attend department, grade-level adviser, and faculty meetings; maintain verbal and written professional contact with students, colleagues and families; serve on one faculty committee; chaperone after-school student events; participate in the broader life of the School; and, support the school community by setting a positive example in all areas of school life.

Collaborate joyfully with colleagues in designing learning experiences and program delivery
Bachelor's degree in English or related fields is required, an advanced degree is preferred. Secondary school teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with post-secondary teaching experience will be considered.
