Summary:
SF Day seeks a creative and dynamic Movement Teacher to lead engaging, non-traditional physical education classes for students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. This role focuses on fostering a love of movement through play, exploration, and creative expression, emphasizing body awareness, coordination, and social-emotional learning rather than traditional competitive sports.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement movement-based lessons that build foundational physical skills, including balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and flexibility.
Introduce non-competitive movement activities that encourage collaboration, self-expression, and confidence in all students.
Incorporate a variety of movement styles, such as creative dance, yoga, obstacle courses, cooperative games, and sensory integration exercises.
Foster a positive relationship with physical activity by making movement fun, accessible, and engaging for all students.
Use props and equipment (e.g., ribbons, balance beams, stepping stones, hoops) to enhance lessons and support different learning styles.
Encourage social-emotional development by teaching mindfulness, self-regulation, and cooperative play.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate movement into academic learning and support whole-child development.
Adapt activities to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying physical abilities and learning styles.
Maintain a safe and organized movement space, ensuring proper use and care of equipment.

Collaborate with faculty and staff in student-facing duties such as arrival/dismissal, recess, and lunch.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Degree or certification in Physical Education, Dance, Early Childhood Education, Movement Therapy, or a related field.
Experience teaching young children in a structured movement-based or PE setting.
Strong understanding of child development, motor skills progression, and sensory integration.
Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Classroom management skills suited to active, hands-on learning.
Certification in children’s yoga, dance, or movement therapy is a plus.
Working Conditions:
80% Indoors, 20% outdoors
Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual operational and other matters
