About the Position
Evergreen Country Day School is seeking a Special Education / Individualized Learning Teacher to teach one second-grade student as a fully integrated member of our second-grade classroom.
Unlike many special education positions, this role focuses on deep, individualized instruction rather than large caseload management.
This teacher will partner closely with the classroom teacher to design and implement an individualized academic program that allows the student to meaningfully participate in classroom life while receiving instruction at his developmental and academic level.
This is a unique and rewarding role for an educator who loves small-group and individualized instruction and believes deeply in inclusion, relationship-based teaching, and meeting students where they are.
This position is not a paraprofessional or shadow role — it is a teaching position requiring instructional design, assessment, and professional judgment. While collaboration with outside providers and families is important, this position does not involve managing a large roster of IEP paperwork, compliance meetings, or multiple student caseloads.
The teacher will:
Teach the student daily within the second-grade classroom environment
Develop and implement individualized curriculum in reading, writing, and math
Scaffold classroom units so the student can participate alongside peers
Balance academic skill development with social-emotional growth and confidence-building
Communicate regularly with the student’s family and school administration
Collaborate closely with the second-grade teacher and support team
Have time to plan thoughtfully, teach responsively, assess progress, build a meaningful relationship with the student, and focus on helping a child experience authentic success
The ideal candidate
Has experience teaching students with learning differences and/or developmental variability
Is comfortable designing and adapting curriculum to meet a student’s level
Has strong skills in early literacy and foundational math instruction
Understands how to support executive functioning and social-emotional development
Collaborates well and communicates thoughtfully with colleagues and families
Is patient, flexible, creative, and optimistic
Builds strong relationships with children
Maintains high expectations while honoring individual progress
Is enthusiastic, positive, and deeply invested in helping students feel successful at school
Preferred qualifications:
Degree in Special Education or related field
Experience with special education, individualized instruction, intervention, or related services
Familiarity with structured literacy approaches and/or multi-sensory math instruction
Other opportunities to make a difference
Collaborate daily with a skilled and caring classroom teacher
Participate in service learning, outdoor education, and school traditions
Be part of our PK-8 House system (think Harry Potter) that fosters cross-age relationships
Contribute to a school committed to teaching the whole child
Work in a community that values diverse perspectives and open communication
However, Evergreen Country Day School is open to structuring this position as a full-time role (7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.) for a candidate who is interested in additional responsibilities.
We are committed to finding the right educator and are flexible in designing a schedule that supports both the student and the teacher.
Compensation
Compensation will range from $40-60 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or disability.
Evergreen Country Day School is an independent PK-8 school serving 240 students in the foothills west of Denver. Over the past five years, we have grown thoughtfully from 150 students to our current enrollment, building both our programs and our community with intention.
We are known for strong relationships, innovative programming, and a willingness to try new things while staying grounded in what matters most: helping students develop confidence, capability, and compassion. Our mountain setting is not just geography; it shapes how we approach learning, risk-taking, and growth.
