The Elisabeth Morrow School, a leader in education from early childhood through middle school, seeks to fill one Associate Teacher Position in second grade, for the 2026–2027 school year.
The hours of work are 7:30 a.m.–4:45 p.m. on Mondays (afternoons are reserved for professional development and faculty meetings) and 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays. Occasional attendance may be required at school-related functions held outside these regular hours.
This position reports to the Head of Lower School and will receive mentorship from an experienced classroom teacher to provide an engaging and transformative learning experience for our lower school students.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Help plan, execute, and assess developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the school’s philosophy and mission.
Provide relief for the classroom teacher.
Facilitate lunch, snack, and other open-ended class times.
Ensure guidance of children’s behavior that encourages positive self-concept.
Ensure the children’s environment is healthy and safe.
Ensure positive communication with parents when requested.
Contribute to the ongoing operations of the school by carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned.
Fill in at other grade levels in the division (Grades 1–4) as needed.
Essential Qualifications
While previous classroom teaching experience is not required, a commitment to elementary education, the whole child experience, and on-the-job learning is essential.
One or two semesters of student teaching experience in either independent, charter, or public schools. We will strongly consider a mid-career changer who may not have classroom experience but has a great deal of life experience to contribute.
Completed or currently enrolled in a degree program in education (preferred, not required).
Passionate about working with children.
Eager to learn and flexible in their thinking.
Excellent interpersonal skills; collaborative and interested in contributing to conversations.
Mature and responsible attitude towards work.
Compensation
This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits and compensation package for the region. The salary range for this position is $40,000 to $45,000. Final salary is commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and the national independent school market.
