Curtis is seeking a Director of Educational Technology & Innovation to join a team-oriented, inclusive, and professional learning community. Curtis School is a DK-6 co-ed elementary school whose mission is to “develop, in every child, a sound mind in a sound body, governed by a compassionate heart.” We place an equal emphasis on academic, physical, social-emotional, and character education and instill a growth mindset modeled by faculty and staff who are the best in their craft.
The Director of Educational Technology & Innovation ensures that technology strengthens teaching and learning rather than driving it. The Director of Educational Technology & Innovation provides vision, leadership, and hands-on partnership with faculty to integrate developmentally appropriate instructional technology, STEAM experiences, and emerging tools (including AI) in ways that are purposeful, sustainable, and mission-aligned.
Reporting to the Head of School and partnering closely with the academic leadership team and the Manager of Technology, this position focuses on pedagogy, faculty coaching, and instructional strategy. The Director of Educational Technology & Innovation does not oversee infrastructure or network systems; instead, the role bridges pedagogy and technology to support meaningful innovation across DK-6.
Curtis School is fully committed to a diverse faculty and student body. The candidate should possess an abundance of respect and sensitivity around racial, ethnic, gender, socio-economic, and all differences.
Lead the school’s mission-aligned vision and strategy for instructional technology across DK–6.
Translate academic priorities into clear, achievable technology initiatives and multi-year plans.
Partner with academic leaders and faculty to integrate developmentally appropriate technology that strengthens teaching and learning.
Guide thoughtful integration of digital tools, platforms and emerging technologies, including AI.
Guide digital citizenship and responsible use practices, including age-appropriate AI implementation.
Pilot, evaluate, and scale instructional tools using feedback and data to support continuous improvement.
Coach teachers individually and in teams; design and facilitate professional learning in instructional technology.
Support STEAM integration, robotics, coding, engineering and maker-centered learning.
Stay current with research and best practices in K–8 educational technology.
Serve as the instructional liaison to the Technology Department, ensuring classroom priorities are aligned with technical planning and system capabilities.
Collaborate closely with IT leadership while infrastructure and network operations remain under IT oversight.
Collaborate with division heads to supervise technology faculty.
Support troubleshooting and deployment of instructional hardware and software.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate will:
Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of five years of experience in classroom teaching required (experience in curriculum coordination or educational technology leadership preferred).
Demonstrated success in coaching and partnering with faculty to strengthen pedagogy and curriculum integration across disciplines.
Strong understanding of instructional technology in teaching and learning environments, with working knowledge of infrastructure and enterprise systems in partnership with IT leadership.
Proven communication, facilitation, organization, and relationship-building skills.
Fluency with Google Workspace for Education and comfort in both PC and Mac environments.
Understanding of independent school culture and pedagogy.
Preferred
Experience leading professional development.
Familiarity with LMS platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology).
Experience with STEAM, maker-centered learning, or project-based learning.
Familiarity with AI tools and responsible implementation in educational settings.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands regularly.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Flexibility to support school events and varied schedules as needed.
