POSITION SUMMARY:
Pinewood School is seeking a full-time 1st-grade Language Arts teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The individual in this role is a professional educator who is passionate about teaching and meeting the needs of 1st-grade students within a rich and rigorous language arts curriculum.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches Language Arts (reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary and spelling) to 1st-grade students in accordance with Pinewood’s curriculum standards and objectives.
Develops and implements effective instructional strategies and can differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Creates a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.
Uses technology effectively to communicate and to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
Works with the 1st-grade team of teachers within a departmentalized school setting.
Communicates effectively with parents on a regular basis regarding students’ needs and/or progress.
Receive two to six week training in the phonetic based Spalding Writing Road to Reading Program before school instruction begins.
Attends regular monthly faculty, grade level, and academic meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to spend long hours sitting while using computers and office equipment.
Visual and auditory acuity to monitor student activities and ensure safety.
Ability to carry or lift up to 20 lbs. (e.g. classroom materials).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Language Arts, Literature or a related field is required. Master’s degree and/or a teaching credential is desired.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in classroom teaching.
Experience teaching lower elementary language arts class is desired.
Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Strong interpersonal skills.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary range is $76,900-$143,930 and is based on education and years of teaching experience.
