Overview of Position
This position is for a part-time (60%) Elementary Spanish Teacher, with the contract beginning July 1st and with a start date of August 17, 2026. Our elementary campus has a Spanish program that serves our TK-4th grade students, where students attend Spanish class twice a week, starting in Kindergarten. This part-time teacher will lead instruction in Kindergarten and 1st grade with an emphasis on joyful acquisition of language through exploration, songs, games, and some exposure to reading and writing. We are looking for a charismatic and enthusiastic teacher who can bring Spanish to our youngest students. Additionally, this position includes weekly conversation touchpoints with students who participate in our emerging bilingual curriculum in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.
This teacher will report to the Elementary Division Head and will work in close collaboration with the 2nd through 4th grade Spanish Teacher.
Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and evaluate lessons for Kindergarten and 1st grade.
Support the emerging bilingual students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade with once weekly conversation touchpoints.
Collaborate closely with the other Spanish Teacher in creating a positive Spanish language learning environment where the majority of instruction is conducted in Spanish.
Collaborate closely with the homeroom teams to support the SEL needs of students while in Spanish class.
Assist in maintaining a clean, well-organized learning environment.
Maintain ongoing communication on classroom issues and individual students.
Model patience, flexibility, kindness, responsibility, a sense of humor, and a respect for others.
Create meaningful relationships and an inclusive classroom community.
Conduct effective ongoing communication with a diverse group of parents.
Complete progress reports twice per year.
Support division specific programming.
Required Qualifications
Appreciation for and desire to work with five to seven year olds
Commitment to early childhood education and social/emotional development
Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish and English, both written and verbal
Demonstrated desire to learn best practices in elementary language instruction
Knowledge of the essential role social emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in application of SEL within the educational setting
Nuanced understanding of DEI/social justice knowledge from a personal or programmatic perspective
Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies
Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification
In addition to required qualifications additional skills include:
Experience with Comprehensible Input strategies and TPRS
Experience instructing emerging bilingual/bilingual students
Proficiency in essential digital tools, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive), email, and Slack, and a willingness to learn school specific software
Excellent interpersonal skills
Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
Understanding of differentiated learning techniques
Schoolwide Duties:
Participation in all staff, division, committee, department, and grade level team meetings
Support and participate in schoolwide events such as: Panther Picnic, All Together Now, Walkathon etc. - as designated by supervisor
Support the overall day to day needs of the division with weekly duties, such as yard supervision and curbside dismissal support
Engage schoolwide professional development structures and processes, including but not limited to: Equity and Inclusion work, pedagogical best practices, technological skill development, etc.
