The expected pay range for this position is $39.00 - $42.00 per hour, not to exceed 20 hours per week. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. Stanford Online High School offices are located at the Stanford Redwood City Campus, however this position will be performed completely online and requires you to have the ability, technology, and appropriate tools to successfully perform all job duties online. You must be located within the United States of America.
Stanford OHS is seeking a Physics Instructor for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach one to two sections of an introductory algebra-based physics course with labs designed to develop a strong conceptual and practical understanding of physics principles.. This course has been developed but may be modified in conjunction with the rest of the physics teaching team. In this role, you will meet with each section twice a week, following a college-style schedule, to foster in-depth discussions of the course material, including problem solving. You are encouraged to bring your advanced subject-level expertise to the class, providing students with challenging experiences beyond the typical high school curriculum.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare for class, lead synchronous online discussions sections, and assist students in using course materials.
Monitor student progress, provide feedback, grade assessments, and discuss performance with students, and administrative staff.
Hold weekly office hours with students.
Other duties as assigned, including engaging with students and families at major school events.
To be successful, in this position, you will bring:
Master's degree (or equivalent course work or job experience) in physics or related discipline. Ph.D. in physics or related discipline strongly preferred.
At least one year experience teaching physics at the high school or college level, or equivalent.
A reliable home internet connection and the ability to maintain communication with the Department, students, and parents as required and using technology as directed by the Department.
Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, students and parents.
Experience with teaching traditional and online courses.
Familiarity with Physics Education Research (PER) literature and methodologies, as well as engagement with the PER community
Proficiency in using computer applications, including those used for video conferencing, video production, and information management
Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
Ability to frequently sit, and consistently perform desk-based computer and office related tasks.
