Renbrook School (West Hartford, CT), a Preschool through Grade 8 independent school, seeks a Partner Teacher to serve as a full-time Preschool maternity leave substitute in its Beginning School. This position will begin August 24, 2026, and continue through the end of October.
The Beginning School at Renbrook is a warm, joyful, and child-centered learning environment where young children are deeply known, valued, and supported as they grow. Our play-based program is rooted in inquiry, exploration, and meaningful relationships, nurturing curiosity, independence, and social-emotional development alongside early academic skills. Learning unfolds through hands-on experiences, guided discovery, and collaboration, honoring each child’s developmental path while fostering a strong sense of belonging.
We seek a teacher who brings creativity, warmth, and enthusiasm to the classroom and who understands the central role of play in the learning and development of young children. The ideal candidate will value collaboration with colleagues, build strong relationships with students and families, and contribute positively to a joyful and engaged learning community.
Responsibilities:
Nurture the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of our youngest students.
Continue to foster an established classroom environment that balances play as the way our youngest children learn about themselves, others, and their world.
Collaborate with lead teacher, grade level team, and specialists around a theme-based curriculum.
Incorporate tinkering, experimenting, and making with a variety of materials to develop a foundational understanding of STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).
Embrace the benefits and opportunities of outdoor learning on Renbrook’s campus.
Approach students from an asset-based perspective and document students’ interests and skills through observation and listening against Renbrook’s Preschool Benchmarks.
Support the lead teacher in updating families on their child’s progress and the curriculum through emails, weekly newsletters, and Seesaw postings.
Enhance the school’s commitment to diversity and belonging through an early childhood lens to ensure students see themselves reflected in the classroom environment and curriculum.
Bring creativity, joy, and energy to the Beginning School.
Qualifications:
Collaborative nature, creativity, and a sense of humor
Excellent relationship-building and strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with a play-based curriculum is encouraged
BA is required, MA is suggested; three years teaching experience preferred.
The review of candidates will begin immediately with an expected start date in August 2026 through late October 2026.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and three letters of reference included together in one PDF document to employment@renbrook.org with "Preschool Maternity Leave" in the subject line.
