Rye Country Day School is seeking a full-time Upper School Latin Teacher beginning August 2026. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, Prek-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Teach four sections of Upper School Latin (and potentially Greek).
- Collaborate with colleagues to continue to develop a dynamic curriculum that fosters mastery of and love for the Latin language and curiosity about the study of the ancient Classical world
- Develop and implement lessons that consistently encourage student engagement and provide support for becoming curious and competent readers, critical thinkers, and analytical reasoners
- Grade student assignments and provide timely, constructive feedback of their work
- Regularly write reports that evaluate student performance and demonstrate knowledge of students’ experiences
- Participate in faculty and department meetings, field trips, special activities, and rotational duties
- Seek out and participate in professional growth opportunities embracing a growth mindset
- Serve as advisor to a group of Upper School students
Desired qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Classics required
- 3-5 years of experience teaching in an Upper School setting (experience teaching at the Middle School level and/or experience teaching Ancient Greek preferred)
- A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Excitement for working with students
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
- Ability to support the extra-curricular life of the school
- Genuine excitement for and ability to work with students, employees, and families
