General Summary:
Teach Spanish to students in USM’s Middle School. Support USM’s mission to cultivate learners, leaders, and citizens through its academic and co-curricular programming. Model a passion for Spanish and love for learning, and help students meet their intellectual and social-emotional potential. Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen Spanish curriculum, to develop the craft of teaching, and to enhance the Middle School community and USM community as a whole. Embody the values of USM’s Common Trust: respect, trust, honesty, fairness, and kindness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach five sections of Spanish.
- Plan and implement engaging and differentiated lessons.
- Craft formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning.
- Provide meaningful, growth-oriented feedback to students.
- Inspire an appreciation for Spanish in students.
- Advise a group of Middle School students.
- Engage in regular professional development opportunities, in and outside of USM, to grow as a teacher.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the Middle School Spanish department.
- Joyfully contribute to an inclusive school culture in which students are engaged, known, and valued.
- Attend meetings and complete other duties as assigned in order to support the functioning of the Middle School.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong content knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching the Spanish language.
- Deep respect and appreciation for Middle School students.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and a desire to continually grow.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to collaborate with others.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related area.
- Teaching experience, preferably at the Middle School level.
