Position Title: Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling
Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. We are seeking experienced candidates for a full-time Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling position beginning August 2026. This is a 10-month position which offers an excellent array of benefits and a highly competitive salary. In addition, 100% tuition remission is available for a total of two children who qualify for admission and for whom space is available.
Position Purpose:
The Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling works collaboratively with the Director and a team of three other college counselors to assist with all operations of the office, work closely and supporting students and families through the college search, application, and decision-making process. This role involves individualized advising, program development, and collaboration with school staff to ensure students are well-prepared for postsecondary success. Caseload of 30-35 students in each class.
Specific duties include:
Working collaboratively as a member of an experienced and energetic team;
Writing comprehensive counselor recommendations for approximately 30-35 students in each graduating class;
Teaching College Seminar for juniors (educates students about the college search and provides a forum for juniors to complete several sections of the Common Application);
Helping students and families navigate a complicated college admission landscape by providing expertise, structure and emotional support, guide students in developing balanced college lists aligned with academic, personal, and financial goals, review applications and essays, and serve as a resource on financial aid and all aspects of the process;
Serving as an advisor to approximately ten students in GA’s House system;
Collaborate with student’s advisor in course selection process for rising juniors and seniors.
Establishing relationships with college and university representatives through meetings with college representatives who visit GA, visiting college campuses, and attending regional and national conferences;
Serve as an advocate for seniors in the admissions process;
Fully utilizing the resources of Naviance and MAIA Learning to facilitate the college search and application processes;
Developing programming, deliver workshops and providing support for 10-12 grade students as they learn about the college counseling process and make the most of their school resources;
Supporting divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work as appropriate;
Assisting with coordination of a spring college fair and other college counseling programming;
Participating in professional development related to college counseling and the school’s strategic priorities;
Participating in faculty and staff meetings;
Serving as the test center coordinator and point person for PSAT 10, PSAT-NMSQT, and SAT;
Performing an additional role in the school community depending on skill set, such as teaching a class or coaching a sport.
Requirements and Skills:
A minimum of three to five years’ experience in high school college counseling or commensurate selective college admissions work and knowledge of independent schools;
Strong written,verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
Strong organizational skills, attention to detaill and the ability to meet deadlines;
Strong knowledge of college admissions policies, processes, financial aid and trends
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently;
Ability to work with diverse student populations and support equitable access to higher education.
