Charleston Collegiate School (CCS) is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian day school serving students from PS through 12th grade. Job Description
The Third Grade Teacher at Charleston Collegiate School is responsible for crafting a developmentally appropriate, rigorous curriculum that builds academic skills, fosters critical thinking, and emphasizes social growth through engineering and beyond. This role requires a collaborative and innovative educator who values interdisciplinary teaching and is committed to nurturing the whole child.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies through engaging projects that integrate hands-on learning and critical thinking.
Scaffold learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of students, supporting their transition to more complex problem-solving and independent thinking.
Embed CCS’s core values, empathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacy, into classroom activities to foster personal growth and social responsibility.
Leverage the school’s outdoor campus to create experiential learning opportunities that connect academic content to the natural environment.
Emphasize collaboration, teamwork, and communication skills to support the development of positive peer relationships and effective group dynamics.
Monitor and assess student progress using data-driven methods, providing targeted feedback to help students achieve academic and personal goals.
Partner with colleagues to align curriculum and share interdisciplinary teaching strategies. Communicate with families to celebrate successes and address challenges.
Establish an organized, safe, and inclusive classroom that promotes creativity, critical thinking, independence, communication, and problem-solving.
Facilitate community-based projects and connections to help students see the impact of their learning in the broader community.
Participate in professional development opportunities, implement best practices in elementary education, and contribute to the collaborative culture of CCS.
Qualification Requirements
College Degree (minimum Bachelors)
Good working knowledge of Google Suite
Current in advanced First-aid training or equivalent
At least 3 years of independent school leadership experience
