SUMMARY:
The Masters School seeks a full-time 7th grade English teacher. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to teach four sections, to work closely with a dynamic team of humanities teachers, and to nurture the intellectual and social-emotional development of bright, curious and engaged students. A passion for working with middle school students and a sense of humor are essential. Masters is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Ideal candidates will be energized by teaching in a student-centered classroom that values deep, experiential, and interdisciplinary learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach four sections of 7th grade English
- Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter while teaching essential skills
- Advise a group of 8-10 students
- Participate in extracurricular programs as a coach or club supervisor
- Perform recess duty and other supervisory responsibilities as assigned
- Attend Middle School divisional meetings, department meetings, and full faculty meetings
- Participate actively in the life of the Middle School by attending full group activities, including Middle School gatherings, student presentations and performances, and other community events
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in English and/or English education required. Masters preferred
- Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students. Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students is ideal.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
- Familiarity with and/or willingness to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
- Proficiency in the use of technology
