SUMMARY:
The Masters School seeks a full-time 7th grade English teacher. This role offers the right candidate an opportunity to teach four sections, to work closely with a dynamic team of humanities teachers, and to nurture the intellectual and social-emotional development of bright, curious and engaged students. A passion for working with middle school students and a sense of humor are essential. Masters is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Ideal candidates will be energized by teaching in a student-centered classroom that values deep, experiential, and interdisciplinary learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections of 7th grade English
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter while teaching essential skills
Advise a group of 8-10 students
Participate in extracurricular programs as a coach or club supervisor
Perform recess duty and other supervisory responsibilities as assigned
Attend Middle School divisional meetings, department meetings, and full faculty meetings
Participate actively in the life of the Middle School by attending full group activities, including Middle School gatherings, student presentations and performances, and other community events
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in English and/or English education required. Masters preferred
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students. Prior teaching experience with middle school-aged students is ideal.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Familiarity with and/or willingness to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficiency in the use of technology
