SUMMARY: The Upper School History and Religion Department is seeking a teacher who is passionate about the study of history, enthusiastic about working with high school students and committed to developing their craft as a teacher. Cognizant of our increasingly connected world, the department has developed a set of curricular offerings that build from a two-year World History foundation, include various approaches to the teaching of American History and allow students to choose from a range of exciting senior level seminars. The Upper School History and Religion Department is seeking a collaborative colleague to join the team. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to foster students’ critical thinking, writing and analytic skills and experience teaching in student-centered environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections- three US History to eleventh graders and one International Relations elective course to twelfth graders
Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter
Attend departmental and divisional meetings, as well as all school professional development events.
Participate in the life of the Upper School by attending full group activities (morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events) and by participating in non-teaching responsibilities, such as study hall, advising a club or coaching
QUALIFICATIONS:
Understanding of and desire to work with high school students
Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students Proficient in the use of technology
Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Sciences and/or History education required, Masters preferred
