St. James’ Episcopal School is looking for a full-time 2nd Grade teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the School’s mission to support the academic, extracurricular, social, and emotional success of students.
We are looking for a 2nd Grade teacher who is confident in their ability to:
- Design rigorous, innovative, and equity-framed Writing, Reading, Social Studies, and Mathematics instruction with differentiated student learning and assessment.
- Implement socio-emotional learning in the classroom.
- Purposefully use technology, and monitor students’ use of technology, in the classroom.
- Design and deliver comprehensive individual and group projects with in-depth and rubric-based feedback to students and families.
- Partner closely with co-curriculars and other grade level team members to foster an interdisciplinary approach to instruction which includes substantial writing, project-based learning, and service-learning.
- Communicate and use clear assessment practices and provide regular feedback to students and families.
- Regularly maintain the digital student gradebook of each student.
- Write comprehensive narratives for each child three times a year.
- Fulfill assigned pick-up, drop-off, lunch, and recess coverage duties.
- Participate enthusiastically in the greater life of the school.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a masters preferred. Experience in the field is advantageous. This opportunity requires excellent strategies and skills in communication, collaboration, and organization with an appreciation for confidentiality, equity, belonging, and professional growth.
