Lower School Science & Innovation Teacher
At San Jose Episcopal Day School, everything we do is a loving and joyful expression of our mission, inspiring a passion for learning, a life of integrity, and a heart for Christian service. Our students come to us with open, curious minds, ready to investigate the world around them, eager to identify and research real-world problems, and excited to apply their imaginations, critical thinking, and collaboration to design, build, and evaluate viable solutions.
Committed to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and experiential, Project-Based Learning in the early elementary years, SJEDS is eager to welcome a creative, outside-the-box thinker to the community. The ideal candidate will be someone looking for the opportunity to develop a signature program that fosters curiosity, collaboration, and a love of discovery!
KEY ATTRIBUTES
This teacher will serve as both a teacher and a catalyst, cultivating relationships with faculty, students, and families alike to draw the community together into a deeper understanding of how to design learning experiences that promote student agency and creativity, as well as key 21st century skills, knowledge, and dispositions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead by example, following the school’s Faculty Characteristics of Professional Excellence and the guidelines put forth in our Faculty Handbook.
Embrace and live out the school's mission and educational philosophy.

Partner with Lower School faculty in the development of overarching Units of Inquiry that thoughtfully integrate learning strands such as literacy, history, culture, science, mathematics, technology, and engineering so that students can make connections and explore concepts deeply as they develop key skills, understandings, and dispositions.
Model humility, playfulness, flexibility, and resilience as a lifelong learner, enthusiastically engaging in ongoing cycles of goal-setting, research, application, and reflection.
Commit to cultivating a community where all members can enjoy genuine belonging, where diversity is cherished, and students can see their great potential in the adults around them, in the books they read, in the lessons they learn, and in the fellowship of the larger church-school community.
Attend to the broader needs of the school community, including, but not limited to, participation in school professional development initiatives, community events, service and outreach opportunities, committee membership, parent and faculty meetings, and other commitments as requested by the Head of School.
