Position Overview
Visitation School seeks a dynamic, mission-driven Director of Athletics and Activities to lead and grow a vibrant athletic program that supports the development of the whole student—mind, body, and spirit. Rooted in the school’s Catholic faith and Salesian spirituality, the Director of Athletics will cultivate a culture of teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and excellence for all student-athletes.
The Director will oversee all aspects of the school’s athletic programs, including middle and upper school athletics, and other competitive after-school activities. The role ensures alignment with Visitation’s mission and values while promoting both competitive excellence and broad participation. This position reports to the Head of School. The start date is July 1, 2026
Key Responsibilities
Athletic Program Leadership
Provide strategic leadership for the entire athletic program, including middle and high school teams.
Promote a culture of sportsmanship, character development, and teamwork aligned with Visitation’s Catholic and Salesian values.
Ensure a positive and inclusive experience for student-athletes at all skill levels.
Program Administration
Oversee scheduling, league participation, and compliance with conference and state athletic associations.
Develop and manage the athletics budget, equipment, and facilities.
Coordinate transportation, game management, and event logistics.
Supervise the Assistant Athletic Director.
Coaching Leadership
Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate coaching staff.
Provide professional development and mentorship for coaches.
Ensure coaches model positive leadership and student-centered coaching practices.
Student-Athlete Experience
Support the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
Encourage participation and promote balance between athletics, academics, and extracurricular activities.
Foster leadership opportunities for students through athletics.
Community Engagement
Serve as a visible leader for the athletics program within the school community.
Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, parents, and alumni to strengthen school spirit and support athletics.
Promote the athletic program through communication, events, and partnerships.
Facilities & Strategic Growth
Oversee the use, maintenance, and development of athletic facilities.
Contribute to long-term planning for athletic programs and facilities.
Support fundraising initiatives and capital projects related to athletics.

Visitation School is an independent Catholic school located in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. We educate boys and girls from Montessori PreK through grade 5 and all girls in grades six to twelve. Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
Demonstrated leadership experience in athletic administration, coaching, or school leadership.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Commitment to student development and educational athletics.
Preferred
Experience in independent or Catholic school environments.
Knowledge of Minnesota high school athletic associations and conference participation.
Experience managing athletic facilities and multi-sport programs.
