Rodeph Sholom School, a Reform Jewish Day School based on the Upper West Side, fosters intellectual curiosity through a challenging independent school academic program in nursery school through 8th Grade. ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with experience in an independent school or a similar public-facing setting. You possess a unique blend of administrative expertise and a sharp eye for detail, with the ability to provide high-level copy-editing and communications support while maintaining a warm, professional presence for our community.
WORK SCHEDULE
Working hours are generally 7:45 am to 3:45 pm; additional hours may be required in the evenings. You will be asked to attend some faculty/staff meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 pm until 5:00 pm. This position is a 12-month administrative staff position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations & Lobby Management:
Serve as the primary receptionist in the 79th St. lobby, maintaining a warm, welcoming, and helpful presence for all students, families, and visitors.
Maintain a professional appearance suitable for a front-facing position in an independent school environment.
Exercise a high level of discretion and confidentiality regarding all student, family, and school-related information.
Manage Middle School student attendance each morning.
Create name tags and other materials as needed for school events (e.g., back-to-school teacher week).
Support bus dismissal logistics on an as-needed basis.
Coordinate the delivery of student belongings and ensure messages are passed to the appropriate parties.
Maintain the physical appearance of the lobby, bulletin boards, coffee station, and bathrooms, liaising with the Facilities team as needed.
Coordinate security drills with Security, Facilities, Executive Assistants, and Chief of Staff and Operations.
Review the school calendar on a daily basis regarding facilities, technology, and kitchen logistics for various events.
Oversee the proper implementation of onsite events in coordination with Chief of Staff and Operations, Executive Assistants, Building Manager, Food Service, Communications, Enrollment, and/or Development as needed (e.g., Graduation, All School Shabbats, Alumni Events).
Oversee Title I, IIA, IV, and other Federal and State funding grants.
Communications & Media
Lead the production, editing, and distribution of school-wide email communications, including the weekly “This Week” newsletter.
Regularly create and post mission-driven stories and content on social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
Manage and update the digital display screens (OptiSigns) weekly in the 79th St. and 84th St. lobbies.
Manage the SmugMug photo library, ensuring galleries are built before the start of each school year and providing teachers with secure upload information.
Capture event photos/videos and maintain the SmugMug asset database (culling, editing, and organizing albums).
Maintain brand standards across all visual designs for social media and print communications.
Update and maintain the School Portal and calendar; coordinate and document communications using shared spreadsheets.
Assist the Parents Association with collecting or creating materials and their events (e.g., graduation slideshow, skate night displays, staff appreciation, cocktail parties)
Support the Director of Communications & Marketing by performing additional communications duties, including, but not limited to, ordering promotional materials and supplies, assisting on video shoots, and updating the website.
QUALIFICATIONS

Highly organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects and implement excellent time management systems.
Meticulous attention to detail in copy-editing.
Strong writer with excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven experience in social media content creation and storytelling.
Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Canva, and/or Creative Cloud preferred.
Familiarity with Student Information Systems (Blackbaud SIS) is preferred.
Graphic design, photography, and video editing experience preferred.
Flexible, takes initiative, and maintains a proactive "can-do" attitude.
Kind, personable, and possesses a healthy sense of humor.
Enjoys working with elementary and middle school-aged children, working closely with colleagues, and being involved in other aspects of school life.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Annual salary range: $55,000-$70,000; commensurate with experience.
Generous paid time off (e.g., sick, personal, and vacation days; holidays; school breaks).
All staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 upon hire.
