The Director of Culture and Community is a full-time, year-round, Senior Administrative position reporting directly to the Head of School. The major responsibility of the position is to work at the intersection of our constituents (students, employees, and parents) to promote a culture of belonging, inclusion, and well-being. The Director evaluates and calibrates the School’s community with our expressed values of wisdom, honor, service and our mission as an inclusive Episcopal community. The Director serves as a conductor, coordinating and leveraging the resources of key School constituencies and programs to promote a vibrant community grounded in its Episcopal identity and focused on belonging. The Director also aligns the efforts of these same constituencies and programs to ensure students are equipped with the competencies and skills needed to lead boldly and respectfully in the complex global society.
Essential Functions:

Assist the Head of School, Associate Head of School, and other school leaders in cultivating and stewarding an engaged and inclusive community culture for all school constituents.
Provides strategic direction in the area of Culture and Community, in partnership with the Assistant Director of Culture and Community and Inclusion, the Social-Emotional Learning Counselors, Director of Community Service, and Director of Service Learning.
Serve as chief spokesperson to the community on issues pertaining to Episcopal identity and the inclusive community elements of our mission.
Supervises, evaluates and directs the work of the Assistant Director of Belonging, Chaplains, and Directors of Service Learning. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
Manages department’s operating budget, specifically related to programs that promote community and constituent engagement.
Partners with other Directors and key administrators to help community members fully experience an authentic sense of belonging and support.
Partners with the Director of Human Resources to help identify and attract mission aligned employees; onboard and orient new employees; and provide ongoing support to employees through the Fun Squad and similarly directed employee community building initiatives.
Partners with the Communication team to evaluate School communications, including the website and other collateral to ensure they accurately reflect our vibrant and diverse community and the programming therein.
Lead the School’s Care and Response Committee and promote a healthy culture within our parent constituency.
In partnership with the Chaplains, serve as the point person for pastoral care for and within our community.
Partner with the School chaplains to utilize daily chapel as a vehicle for promoting community cohesion and well-being – including giving homilies throughout the year.
Attends daily chapel, with willingness to lead on occasion or back-up when needed.
Lead the Belonging Council and oversee the School’s efforts to promote inclusion and belonging by helping to coordinate, align, and inform the efforts of the various people and programs who form the Council.
Oversee the development of evaluative tools designed to assess community well-being and engagement; analyze those results in concert with other school leaders and develop action plans based on the findings of these assessments.
Establish a cross-divisional presence through periodic involvement in the life of all divisions and attendance at major school events and functions in each division.
Coordinates and supports programming and events related to belonging and inclusion.
Theoretical knowledge of basic social psychology relevant to position.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate.
Regularly uses close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time; ability to observe students from various distances.
Frequently required to move around the campus/office/classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time.
Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 30 lbs. across the campus/classroom/office.

Qualifications/Experience:
An advanced degree
3-5 years’ experience in a field focused on belonging and caring for a large community.
Working in an educational environment, with preference for experience in independent or Episcopal schools.
