About the Role
WIRED—Wellington Innovation Robotics Engineering and Design—is Wellington’s special area class for building the engineering minds of our students. The WIRED teacher brings this program to life for students in grades K–4 while also serving as a cross-divisional leader who connects the work of engineering and technology across our Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools. This is an opportunity to both teach and shape a school-wide vision for innovation.
Position Description
We seek an inspiring and energized educator who can contribute the following to our spirited community:
Design and teach a joyful, rigorous WIRED curriculum that sparks curiosity and engineering confidence in students from kindergarten through grade 4.
Guide young learners through hands-on challenges in robotics, coding, and engineering design using age-appropriate tools and frameworks.
Serve as a collaborative bridge across divisions, helping Wellington articulate and enact a coherent PreK–12 vision for engineering and technology learning.
Partner with classroom teachers across the school to integrate engineering thinking into everyday curriculum and cross-disciplinary projects.
Foster an inclusive and empowering learning environment where every student sees themselves as a capable engineer and innovator.
Reflect on instructional practices and stay current with emerging tools, platforms, and research in engineering and technology education.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum
Teach WIRED classes to all students in grades K–4, delivering a sequential, developmentally appropriate curriculum in robotics, engineering design, coding, and creative problem-solving.
Use design thinking and engineering design process frameworks to develop students’ capacity to identify problems, generate solutions, prototype, and iterate.
Differentiate instruction to meet the full range of learners across grade levels, ensuring challenge and access for all students.
Select, maintain, and manage WIRED program materials, robotics kits, and technology platforms.
Assess and document student learning and communicate progress clearly to classroom teachers and families.
Participate fully in the life of the Lower School, including community events, experiential programming, and duty assignments.
Cross-Divisional Leadership
Partner with Middle and Upper School colleagues to build a shared, articulated PreK–12 framework for engineering and technology learning at Wellington.
Facilitate cross-divisional curriculum conversations that connect the work of innovation, design, and technology across all three divisions.
Serve as a school-wide resource and thought partner for faculty seeking to incorporate engineering challenges, coding, and design thinking into their classroom practice.
Represent Wellington’s WIRED program and broader technology integration work at school-wide events, open houses, and communications.
Stay current with trends, tools, and best practices in K–12 engineering and technology education, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the school-wide program.
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in education, engineering, computer science, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
A genuine love of working with young children and a belief that every student is capable of engineering and innovation.
Experience teaching elementary-age learners, ideally in a technology, engineering, makerspace, or STEM context.
Familiarity with robotics platforms and tools common in K–4 settings (e.g., LEGO Education, Scratch, Bee-Bots, or similar).
Working knowledge of design thinking and engineering design process frameworks.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a collaborative, community-minded mindset.
Demonstrated ability to:
Design curriculum that is both rigorous and joyful for young learners.
Work across divisional lines and build relationships with faculty at all levels.
Create welcoming, inclusive learning environments where students take creative risks.
Enthusiasm for contributing to school programs and initiatives beyond the classroom.
Interest in ongoing professional growth in the evolving fields of robotics, coding, and engineering education.
