Position Summary:

Virginia Episcopal School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Varsity Girls' Basketball Coach and Program Director for the 2026–27 academic year to help cultivate a competitive and character-driven basketball program. This role may also include teaching responsibilities, involvement in residential life, and active participation in the broader boarding school community. The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, uphold the mission and values of the school, and contribute to building an inclusive team culture rooted in the school's guiding principle of "Toward Full Stature."

Primary Responsibilities:

Coaching & Program Leadership

• Provide overall leadership, vision, and direction for the entire basketball program, including varsity and sub-varsity levels as applicable.
• Plan, organize, and run all practices, skill development sessions, strength and conditioning coordination, and game-day operations.
• Develop and implement competitive game strategies, player development plans, and seasonal objectives.
• Foster the academic, athletic, and personal growth of all student-athletes.
• Build and sustain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture rooted in sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and respect.
• Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
• Manage team logistics including scheduling, travel, equipment, uniforms, and budgeting in collaboration with the Athletic Department.
• Represent the program professionally within league, conference, and independent school affiliations.
• Collaborate with college counselors to support student-athletes interested in playing basketball at the collegiate level.
• Lead recruiting efforts and outreach for prospective student-athletes in partnership with the Admissions Office.

Teaching Responsibilities:

• Teach 1–2 sections of a core academic subject, elective, or physical education course based on qualifications and departmental needs.
• Design and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction aligned with departmental and school-wide expectations.
• Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, supporting their academic progress, personal development, and overall well-being.
• Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, and school life initiatives.

 Residential Life:

• Participate in dormitory supervision (typically 1–2 nights per week).
• Support residential programming and student life activities.
• Serve as a mentor and trusted adult presence within the boarding community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Previous coaching experience at the high school, AAU, or collegiate level strongly preferred.
• Experience working in an independent school or residential setting is a plus.
• Ability to teach in an academic department (e.g., English, Math, History, Science, PE).
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to building a positive and inclusive team culture.
