This position is responsible for developing and implementing performing arts classes focused on Movement and Dance for upper and middle school students. The Middle and Upper School Dance Teacher cultivates a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that supports students of all experience levels, interests, and abilities. The position requires a professional with strong collaborative and performing arts skills who can implement a program of learning that is foundational in practice and allows for the scaffolding of skills to enable student choice and agency.
Full-time teaching positions also include other roles within the community, including student advising, leading after-school activities, and additional duties as assigned by the Head of Upper School. This is a 10-month position and reports directly to the K-12 Performing Arts Curriculum Chair.
About the Performing Arts at Bullis: The Bullis Performing Arts program is grounded in the belief that the arts are best understood and appreciated through active, hands-on engagement in both experiential and academic study. The arts are deeply valued within the Bullis community and are enthusiastically supported by administration, families, and faculty. Performing Arts faculty prepare students for a range of performance opportunities— for dance that includes dance showcases, pep rallies, school assemblies, and other community events—while maintaining a strong commitment to the educational journey that leads to those moments. Although courses may culminate in public performances, equal importance is placed on the creative process, artistic exploration, and students’ personal growth. Through thoughtful and intentional instruction, teachers cultivate classrooms where students feel safe to take risks, express themselves authentically, and develop confidence in their artistic voice. In Bullis Performing Arts courses, students engage with meaningful content, build technical and collaborative skills, and develop artistic habits of mind that nurture creativity, discipline, and resilience. The department fosters a culture of engagement, joy, and high standards where both excellence and growth are celebrated.
