Position: Visual & Performing Arts Teacher (Full-Time) School: Seabury School Location: Tacoma, Washington Start Date: August 2026
About Seabury School
Seabury School is a dynamic, independent school that specializes in educating gifted students from early education through middle school. Our mission is to challenge gifted students in a community that cherishes each individual and fosters a love of learning, discovery, and creativity. Seabury is a community of educators, students, and families committed to nurturing the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each child and we believe the arts are essential to that work.
Position Overview
Seabury School seeks an energetic, creative, and student-centered Visual & Performing Arts Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. This full-time, exempt position teaches visual arts and performing arts across grades (typically 1st–8th) and plays a key role in signature school events that celebrate creativity and performance.
We are looking for an educator who can build joyful, skill-building, inclusive arts experiences while also understanding the unique strengths, intensities, and needs of gifted learners. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable leading hands-on, maker-style visual art and guiding students through singing, ukulele basics, drama, and performance preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Visual Arts & Maker-Centered Instruction
Design and teach engaging visual arts experiences across grade levels, including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, design, and maker-space style projects.
Use a variety of approaches and materials to support creative expression, craftsmanship, experimentation, and artistic confidence.
Maintain an organized, safe, and inspiring studio/maker environment, including appropriate tool and materials management.
Performing Arts Instruction
Teach performing arts experiences across grade levels, including singing, basic ukulele instruction, rhythm/music foundations, and age-appropriate drama/theater.
Build student confidence, ensemble skills, and stage presence through inclusive and supportive performance opportunities.
Support students with varied comfort levels and needs, creating accessible roles and pathways to participation.
Signature Events & Productions
Plan and lead two major visual arts celebrations: Trashion Show and Artcade (student-centered art events that showcase creativity, design, and playful innovation).
Plan and lead two major performing arts events: a Winter Performing Arts Show and a Spring Performing Arts Show (including rehearsals, program flow, collaboration, and performance readiness).
Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership on schedules, logistics, and event execution.
Student Support & Inclusive Practice
Build strong relationships with students and foster a studio/classroom culture grounded in belonging, respect, and encouragement.
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners’ needs, including gifted learners, twice-exceptional students, and students who benefit from structure, flexibility, and clear routines.
Use proactive classroom management strategies that support regulation, transitions, and positive participation.
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate regularly and positively with families about student growth, projects, performances, and upcoming events.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to align arts experiences with school themes, community traditions, and interdisciplinary learning when appropriate.
Participate actively in faculty collaboration, meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
Professional Growth & Community Engagement
Stay current with best practices in arts education and in teaching gifted and neurodiverse learners.
Participate in professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Support school community events and supervise students as assigned during non-instructional times.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $60,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Seabury School offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in art education, music education, theater, education, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Demonstrated ability to teach both visual arts and performing arts (music/drama).

Experience teaching gifted and neurodiverse learners—or a strong willingness to learn and implement supportive practices.
Ability to plan, rehearse, and produce student performances and large arts events with warmth, structure, and strong organization.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, flexible approach.
