Position Overview
Seabury School seeks a passionate and dynamic Middle School Math & Science Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. The successful candidate will engage gifted students in inquiry-driven, real-world problem-solving while fostering a love for mathematics and the sciences. This full-time, exempt position is ideal for an educator who values experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-centered instruction.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Excellence
Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based math and science curricula that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social-emotional, and learning needs of gifted and twice-exceptional learners.
Utilize project-based and hands-on learning experiences to deepen student understanding and curiosity in math and science.
Incorporate enrichment and acceleration strategies to ensure students are appropriately challenged based on their individual needs and learning profiles.
Differentiate math instruction across varied readiness levels, including teaching Pre-Algebra through Geometry and supporting students working into Algebra II.
Experiential & Off-Campus Learning
Work in conjunction with the Middle School ELA Teacher to create interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate STEM with other subject areas.
Plan and lead weekly off-campus excursions that extend classroom learning into the real world, leveraging local resources and environments.
Participate in and help coordinate annual middle school trips (regional, domestic, and international) that enrich students' academic and personal growth.
Lead students on an annual middle school retreat, fostering team-building, leadership skills, and personal reflection.
Support 8th grade students in the planning and implementation of Capstone Projects.
Student Support & Classroom Environment
Build strong relationships with students to support their academic, social, and emotional development.
Implement flexible, student-centered instructional strategies that support individual learning needs.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture where students feel empowered to take risks and explore new ideas.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and create cross-disciplinary projects.
Maintain open and proactive communication with families regarding student progress, classroom activities, and learning goals.
Participate in faculty meetings, school events (both during and outside of regular school hours), and professional development to contribute to a collaborative school culture.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $63,000 to $68,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Seabury School offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, science, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Strong math content knowledge and ability to teach/differentiate across a range of levels, including Pre-Algebra through Geometry, and support students progressing into Algebra II.
Demonstrated ability to teach middle school science using inquiry-based, hands-on, and lab-oriented approaches.
Experience teaching gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) learners—or a strong willingness to learn and implement supportive practices.
Ability to differentiate instruction using flexible grouping, scaffolds/accelerations, and targeted skill support aligned to individual learning profiles.
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills that foster a calm, inclusive, and intellectually engaging environment.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work closely with colleagues and partner effectively with families.
Independent school experience and/or experience with interdisciplinary and experiential programs is a plus.
Schedule
The position is a full-time, on-campus role that typically follows a 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM schedule, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for school events, retreats, and trips.
