Mount Tamalpais School (MTS) seeks a full-time Middle School Math Teacher and Advisor starting August 2026. The role includes serving as an Advisor to 12 middle school students and teaching three sections of middle school math, with course levels to be determined collaboratively based on the candidate's strengths and the needs of our existing team.
The ideal candidate is a teacher who lights up when a seventh grader finally gets maintaining equivalence while solving an equation, and who knows how to make moments like that happen more often than not while ensuring all of their students feel seen, valued, and heard. If you believe math should feel rigorous and joyful at the same time, you'll fit right in.
At MTS, middle school teachers don't just teach content; they help students become confident, capable people ready for what comes next. As an advisor, you'll be committed to knowing your students well, supporting their social and emotional development, and partnering with their families.
The ideal candidate has at least three years of teaching experience and a B.A./B.S. in a relevant field. Most importantly, they bring a genuine love of middle schoolers and the particular curiosity and energy they bring to a classroom.
Beyond the classroom, MTS teachers participate in outdoor education, sponsor clubs, and help shape the experiences that make middle school memorable. Our teachers communicate regularly with students and families and contribute to the full life of the school.
You'll thrive here if you:
Meet students where they are and hold high expectations for where they can go
Design learning experiences that are rigorous, inclusive, and culturally responsive
Use technology in ways that genuinely enhance how students learn
Collaborate readily with colleagues across the school community
Bring a growth mindset to your own practice, not just your students'
Are excited to advise, mentor, and show up for kids beyond the math classroom
MTS recognizes that many highly qualified candidates won't check every box, and that exceptional teaching draws on experiences and qualities no job posting can fully capture. If you meet many of these criteria and bring an authentic passion for teaching middle schoolers, we encourage you to apply.
We offer:
Salary ranging from $85,000–$130,000, determined by education and years of experience
A comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, retirement, and dependent care
A generous budget for professional development
A tight-knit, mission-aligned community that is a genuinely joyful place to work and grow
