Summary Description:

Green Acres School is seeking a dedicated full-time associate Spanish teacher to work with pre-k–8th grade in collaboration with a lead Spanish teacher. Teaching in the target language is required, along with the ability to integrate both language skills and cultural literacy. The approach we embrace, based on research in language development, is highly communicative. Teachers conduct classes in Spanish as much as possible, using authentic games, songs, conversations, and other activities and projects to help children internalize language components, such as its sound system, basic lexicon, and grammatical structure. The associate Spanish teacher will also participate in the review and development of the school-wide Spanish curriculum to ensure coherency of scope and sequence from pre-k to 8th grade. Responsibilities:

Teaching:

• Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based units and lessons in Spanish
• Encourage critical thinking and a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and narratives.
• Integrate project-based learning and experiential opportunities into the curriculum.
• Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
• Use a variety of assessment tools to support and measure student growth.
• Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity, promotes equity, and supports the social-emotional development of students.
• Communicate effectively and compassionately with students, families, and colleagues.
• Participate in school life beyond the classroom (e.g., advisory, field trips, community events).
• Core Middle School teachers accompany students as a chaperone on overnight trips of 3–5 days once or twice a year. 

Leadership: 

• Models professionalism in the classroom and amongst colleagues and families
• Positively represents the Green Acres community 
• Is collaborative and models lifelong learning

Additional Responsibilities (as appropriate): 

• Committees 
• School functions, such as: admission open houses; plays and sporting events; Back-to-School Night, etc. 
• In-service attendance and teacher training 
• Supervise during assigned duty times (e.g., before school, during lunch, recess, and after school)

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. 
• Native or native-like fluency in the Spanish language
• Ability to be versatile in teaching grades pre-k–8
• Demonstrate the skills to provide differentiated instruction and to integrate technology into the curriculum
