Bullis School seeks a Middle School Language Arts Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community for the 2026-27 academic year. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching a range of middle school language arts courses, with a particular focus on developing and delivering an engaging, hands-on language arts curriculum for students that is focused on developing strong skills, habits, and personal identities in reading and writing. 

This is a full-time, 10-month position reporting to the Head of Middle School. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, serving as an advisor, and contributing to department initiatives. All Middle School faculty participate as chaperones for a week-long Discovery Days experiential trip with students in the spring. Additional opportunities to supervise co-curricular activities may be available based on interest and school needs. 

About the Middle School Language Arts Department: The Middle School Language Arts program is focused on developing and establishing student reading habits and incorporates research-based components to engage and support the growth of their reading identity. Additionally, students develop writing proficiency in multiple genres as they learn to revise their writing for appropriate audiences, support their claims with evidence, improve syntax, and deepen their confidence in the application of conventions. 

About the Middle School:  Middle School faculty are deeply invested in students’ holistic growth and engage fully in the life of the school through advising, clubs, and community events. Successful teachers are reflective practitioners who value ongoing professional development and employ a wide range of instructional strategies to meet the needs of a diverse student population. In keeping with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development and lesson design are collaborative, ongoing processes. Experiential learning enhances the Middle School experience, from education programs that begin the school year to week-long Discovery Days adventures in spring.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Arts, Humanities, or related field
• Minimum of two years prior teaching experience

Preferred

• Master’s Degree in English Language Arts, Humanities or related field 
• Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment 
• Teaching certificates are not required

Compensation and benefits are competitive, with an anticipated salary range of $65,000 to $95,000.
