Galloway teachers create a supportive and engaging classroom environment where students are known and valued and foster a love for lifelong learning. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Visual Arts program at Galloway is designed to expose students to a broad variety of art concepts, media, and techniques. It involves 2D design and composition, and courses include: painting and drawing, digital and fine arts media, art history and visual literacy, as well as AP Art instruction.
The 2D Visual Arts Teacher understands Galloway’s mission to draw students joyfully into learning and oversees a program that is engaging and challenging to students, faculty, and the Galloway Community.
The 2D Visual Arts teacher supervises and assists students in a project driven environment, creating programs and lessons that capture student imaginations, encourage creativity and individuality, hones artistry and technique and builds a passion for the arts.
In consultation with the Director of Arts and Upper Learning faculty colleagues, the Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for teaching a full load of classes in a range of disciplines (5 per semester), with the broad view of integrating the Arts in the school curriculum and fostering interactions between the school and the world of the Arts.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the Arts program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of The Galloway School, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.
The Visual Arts Teacher:
Instructs students in art, including painting, illustration, design, composition
Maintains a creative and safe classroom environment.
Understands teaching and learning from a student centric perspective.
Plans and prepares lessons, programs and materials for level art class content, meeting course goals.
Has experience teaching AP Art and can guide students in sustained inquiry, creation and deadlines.
Orders supplies as needed and within budgetary restrictions.
Demonstrates method and procedure to students.
Communicates concrete and abstract concepts to students.
Observes and evaluates student’s work to divine progress, and critique.
Organizes and accompanies students on field trips to arts locations and events.
Specializes in teaching in one or more areas of art, such as illustration, art history, painting, sculpture, digital media.
Has a personal active interest in the creation of their own portfolio of work.
Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to design a differentiated, globally integrated curriculum, including project-based units.
Has a working knowledge of computer graphic programs, such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, sufficient to teach and support.
Assigns related coursework and tracks student performance; evaluate programs and student progress (portfolios, conferences, written evaluation).
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Full time employees may be expected to advise students and teach additional elective courses or courses at other levels within the school, as needed.
