Key School is seeking a Lower School Learning Specialist for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role plays a huge role using interventions that are grounded in research to support student learning, and have a passion for culturally responsive teaching, experiential learning, and differentiated instruction. In addition, the Learning Specialist will understand their impact on student learning and seek out professional development and support to increase their effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities:
Works under the leadership of the Learning Department Head.
Shares lesson resources with teachers to assist with teaching reading and math in the classroom.
Supports 2nd & 4th grade Writer’s Workshop (push-in or pull-out, depending on need)
Collaborates with teachers to establish and facilitate grade-level curriculum standards.
Teaches students in second grade small groups (multisensory, phonics-based Language Arts Class).
Supports fourth grade students in Language Arts classes (push-in or pull-out, depending on need)
Plans lessons and prepares materials for student small group support adjusting for student needs.
Coordinates weekly or bi-weekly with homeroom teachers, department head, and division heads.
Keeps notes and records of student progress.
Assesses and evaluates students using a variety of formative and summative assessment tools.
Conducts and reviews admissions testing and files to assist admissions decisions.
Communicates regularly with families about student progress and goals.
Supports 2nd & 4th grade Math (push-in or pull-out, depending on need)
Attend relevant grade team meetings
Meet with relevant grade’s parents and teachers to make recommendations and discuss options for testing, support, tutoring, and accommodations.
Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Division Head & LD team
Administer and analyze assessment tools such as DIBELS/TRC, CTOPP, KTEA-3, and Woodcock-Johnson IV, when appropriate, in grades 2nd & 4th
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree in the field of education (a Master’s Degree and/or certificate in reading instruction preferred)
Minimum of 3 years experience working with children in a resource role.

Key School follows a Faculty Scale that recognizes direct years of experience that correlate to the steps on the scale. The salary range for this position is $47,405-$89,005 and is based upon several factors that include, but not limited to, the candidate’s year of work experience, education and skills. There are additional opportunities on campus for coaching and various stipends, as well.
In addition to the salary, this position is eligible for 10 Sick Days, 2 Personal Days.
Work Schedule/Travel:
Occasionally, there may be business and school functions that will require your presence to work flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends and travel outside of Annapolis.
Technical Competencies:
All candidates for instructional positions should be familiar with learning management systems such as Seesaw and Google Classroom and have the ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using a variety of digital tools. Key is a Google Workspace for Education school. Candidates should be proficient in using Google applications, have a solid understanding of cloud-based storage and file-sharing platforms, and efficiently manage email and scheduling using Gmail and Google Calendar. They should be proficient in virtual communication tools such as Zoom or Google meet and have basic troubleshooting skills to resolve common technical issues that may arise in the classroom.
