Princeton Day School is seeking an Upper School Spanish Teacher beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Successful candidates will be eager to help students develop the skills to communicate in the target language and will be invested in creating classroom opportunities for students to explore the Hispanic world and cultures.
Candidates should be able to teach a complete range of students, from introductory level to advanced.
In addition to teaching 4 sections of Spanish (2-3 preps), a full-time teacher contributes to the community life of PDS as an advisor of 6-10 students, has various duties, and is expected to contribute to school life outside the classroom in an extracurricular activity, such as coaching or clubs. One to four times a semester, a weekend or evening activity or campus event may be required.
For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:
Teach four classes/sections
Lead an advisory
Contribute to school life outside of the classroom
Foster a learning environment that is student centered and that supports students’ social and emotional needs
Differentiate teaching and learning based on students’ cognitive and learning needs
Commit to using innovative teaching practices and technologies to enhance instruction
Develop creative formative and summative experiences and assessments to evaluate student learning
Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and engagement in the learning process
Provide consistent oral and written communication to students and families
Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish language, literature, history and/or culture (required)
Advanced degree in Spanish language, literature, history and/or culture (preferred)
Minimum 3 years of proven success teaching middle school or high school students
Demonstrated experience at introductory through advanced levels
Complete command of the language
Strong background, beyond the language, in Spanish cultural traditions, history and literature
Proven ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, and to communicate and lead through strong interpersonal skills
Instructional design, curriculum development and assessment experience (developing, delivering, and assessing)
Experience or formal training in acquisition-driven approaches such as Comprehensible Input, TPRS or other communicative, proficiency-based methodologies
Compensation Range: $66,500 - $107,000 a year (this role is eligible for benefits)
