Oldfields School in Sparks Glencoe, Maryland is an international all-girls boarding and day school, grades 8-12, established in 1867. We are looking for a Dean of Students & Residential Life, a full-time senior administrator to begin July 1, 2026. The Dean of Students and Residential Life provides strategic leadership and daily management of all aspects of community and residential life by helping to create a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports both boarding and day students. The Dean oversees student attendance, conduct, co-curricular and residential programming, student leadership development, and the advisory and prefect programs. They manage all residential operations such as rooming assignments, roommate conflict resolution, moving in/moving out logistics and weekend programming. They work collaboratively with faculty, advisors, residential staff, families, and students to cultivate a safe, engaging, and mission-aligned Oldfields experience.
General Responsibilities:
Lead disciplinary processes with fairness, consistency and through a restorative and educational lens
Maintain accurate records of student disciplinary actions and communications
Provide leadership development opportunities tailored to adolescent girls
Recruit, train and supervise residential faculty, dorm parents and prefects.
Coordinate all residential programming/activities and residential life policies
Record daily attendance and absences
Oversee student government and clubs
Plan and supervise major student events (assemblies, traditions, spirit events, etc.)
Supervise and evaluate student life staff, including residential faculty/staff and advisors
Partner with counseling, health services and learning support to promote and support student well-being
Serve as a primary point of contact for families regarding student and residential life matters
Communicate proactively and transparently with parents/guardians
Participate in admissions events, coordinate opening-of-school orientation, and represent the student and residential life programs to prospective families
Serve on the Executive Administrative Team
Manage student and residential life budgets
Update School Handbooks
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and independent school best practices
Demonstrate a visible, approachable, and relationship-centered leadership style
Other Required Duties/Expectations:
Teach one class or coach one/two sports
12-month administrative role
Ability to live on campus and participate fully in the life of the School, including evenings and weekends
Occasional travel availability for professional development or school-related events.
Effectively use Google Suites Apps and the School’s LMS
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, or related field
Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience in student or residential life, ideally in an independent school setting
Demonstrated commitment to girls’ education and adolescent development.
Strong interpersonal skills including excellent communication, conflict resolution, collaboration and organizational skills
Experience supervising diverse teams is preferred
Sound integrity, judgment, discretion and confidentiality
