A Middle School STEM & Innovation Teacher at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for students while utilizing the school’s instructional program. This teacher designs meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that integrate mathematics, science, engineering, and innovation. Through inquiry, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration, the teacher helps students build strong foundational skills and develop curiosity about the world around them.
The teacher works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a classroom culture that values creativity, perseverance, collaboration, and critical thinking. Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
Demonstrates strong knowledge of middle school mathematics and science concepts, including earth science, life science, physical science, and introductory chemistry concepts.
Designs and teaches interdisciplinary STEM lessons that integrate multiple literacies, including mathematics, science, engineering, and design thinking.
Utilizes inquiry-based instruction and project-based learning to engage students in real-world problem solving.
Mentors students by fostering a culture of prototyping and productive failure to build resilience and an innovative mindset.
Encourages innovation, creativity, and collaboration through hands-on projects and maker-style learning experiences.
Connects classroom learning to real-world applications and global perspectives.
Creates and executes daily lesson plans aligned with the Forsyth Country Day School curriculum frameworks.
Assessment and Student Support
Uses a range of informal and formal assessment methods to measure student learning, growth, and progress toward mastery.
Utilizes multiple sources of data to drive instruction and support student goal setting.
Employs a variety of instructional strategies, including whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Provides tutorials or additional academic support for students when needed.
Identifies student needs and collaborates with other faculty and staff to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Classroom Environment
Establishes and maintains a positive classroom culture that promotes respect, curiosity, and intellectual risk-taking.
Demonstrates effective classroom management strategies appropriate for middle school learners.

Job Requirements

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, science education, engineering, STEM education, or a related field.
Teaching license in mathematics, science, or STEM education preferred. Three or more years of teaching experience, preferably in grades 6–8.
Experience with project-based learning, engineering design, robotics, coding, or maker-based instruction is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions
Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
Ability to sit and stand throughout the day and bend, kneel, or squat to work with students.
Ability to operate a computer and utilize Google Workspace and other instructional technologies.
Ability to access and navigate all areas of the school campus.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
