The Wesley School, established in 1999, is a co-ed K-8 independent day school in North Hollywood. Nurturing a community of belonging is at the core of everything we do. ROLE DESCRIPTION: The K-4 Associate Teacher is a professionally qualified, full-time, salaried educator who works in collaboration with their grade level team to support the needs of all learners inside and outside the classroom. The Associate Teacher works with the Lead Teacher(s) but reports to the K-5 Program Head, while exercising individual agency and discretion in the context of the Associate Teacher’s teaching responsibilities. They must consistently demonstrate, model, and teach the understandings, skills, and dispositions required for professional collaboration and to support student learning. At The Wesley School these include but are not limited to academic content mastery: creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, social/emotional skills, and cultural proficiency, all of which are central commitments of the School’s educational program, professional culture, and community of learning.
A K-4 Associate Teacher reports directly to the K-5 Program Head. The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Co-teaching according to the instructional design of the Lead Teacher. Assist in planning all core subjects, integrating with the School’s mission and philosophy, and its explicit goals around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
Leading curriculum development and implementation, instructional practice, and assessment responsibilities for one core subject to be agreed on with the Lead Teacher and K-5 Program Head (if necessary).
Documenting, assessing, and reporting on student progress in report cards and parent-teacher conferences across the domains of children’s learning in collaboration with the Lead Teacher(s)
Teaching to advance children’s social, emotional, cultural, and service learning by active participation in and shared responsibility for the implementation of school-wide teaching practices
Staying up to date on technology integration of educational and communications technology
Work with the Lead Teacher and the Student Support Team (Learning Specialists and Counselor) to develop students’ potential - head, hand, heart.
Identifying, reproducing, and/or distributing instructional and curricular resources at the discretion of the Lead Teacher
Supporting the Lead Teacher’s efforts with meeting the academic and social and emotional needs of the students
Participating as a chaperone on grade-level field trips, service learning activities, and/or overnight trips
Visibly support the School’s mission, values, and Strategic Plan, as well as explicit emphasis on DEIB and SEL.
Salary information: At Wesley, salaries are one component of a compensation package that includes retirement matching, health and dental insurance, and life insurance. The anticipated annual base salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of K-4 Associate Teacher is $55,000 - $70,000, depending on factors such as years of experience and academic qualifications.

Reaching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, bending, walking, running, jumping, writing, and keyboarding must be possible.
Finally, in the spirit of being a professional member of this community, many of the responsibilities of the position are associated with obligations to engage in school work on evenings, weekends, and summers as necessary, to satisfy school deadlines and the expression of the school's commitments and initiatives. These obligations include but are not limited to a variety of evening events to engage with families, planning of lessons and units as well as assessment of student learning, documentation of the same including report cards and communication with families, and ongoing professional learning. Bachelor’s degree
Experience with and enthusiasm for working with K-5 students, a diverse population of learners, and lower school specific content areas
