Gaston Day School is an independent, coeducational day school for 500 students in grades K-12.
This posting is for a full-time Upper School World History teacher for students in ninth grade. A competitive candidate will be well-versed in the patterns and turning points that have defined world history since the Renaissance. As the course is critical in developing higher-level written expression, the candidate should be experienced in instructing analytical writing. The position also requires a candidate who excels at differentiated instruction and is able to assist the struggling learner, but also challenge the most academically gifted student.
A Gaston Day School World History teacher is responsible for instructing students in a survey of World History from the fifteenth century up to the present. The ideal candidate must have enthusiasm for world history and a passion for cultivating student knowledge and understanding. In addition to supervising students in academic classes, Upper School teachers also serve as advisors and supervise students in co-curricular activities. Gaston Day teachers demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of all Gaston Day students and to the best interests of the school as a whole.
Broad responsibilities:
Instructs students in World History with curriculum requirements and objectives, making effective use of technology, textbooks, and other instructional materials as appropriate.
Establishes and actively maintains a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interaction between and among students is valued.
Works with students to develop a love of learning, a sense of academic integrity, and a thoughtful work ethic.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and assessments that address multiple learning styles and integrate innovative learning opportunities.
Participates as an active team member within the History Department, Upper School faculty, and the school community as a whole.
Participates in supporting the Upper School’s advisory program and modeling the Honor Code.

Reporting:
The Upper School History Teacher will report directly to the Head of Upper School and the History Department Chair.
