Overview: Canterbury School is seeking a dynamic, talented, and experienced Spanish Language teacher to join our faculty as a full-time teacher in the High School. Superior proficiency in Spanish is required. Strong teaching skills, a deep understanding of this age range, knowledge of best practices in teaching, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate closely with members of the department, administration, faculty, and staff is desired. This position will specialize in teaching Spanish I, Spanish II, and one other elective course, depending on enrollment in Spanish courses.
Responsibilities:
Duties include: providing instruction in Spanish language at intermediate to advanced levels of Spanish
Work directly with other members of the Foreign language department as part of an integrated professional learning community.
Teach and support students as part of an advisory program. Fostering a nurturing, challenging, and supportive classroom environment that emphasizes mutual respect, prepares students to continue their Spanish education in HS, and positions students for a lifelong love of learning.
Foreign language department members are expected to actively pursue professional development in the areas of pedagogy and technology relevant to the field and subject in order to provide students with a learning experience of the highest quality.
All teachers will monitor and report on the performance of students and coordinate with administration, teachers, and parents to address concerns and correct problems should they arise.
Other general supervisory duties throughout the school day, as assigned by the Division Director.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher (Education or related field is preferred)
Significant experience teaching Spanish at this age level
Understanding of AP level requirements in high school foreign language is preferred
Excellent verbal communication skills and organizational skills
Outstanding written skills for communication and documentation
Flexibility, tact and grace in talking with parents
Ability to work successfully with colleagues as part of a team
Knowledge of developmental, social and emotional needs of high school students
Excellent communication skills with students and parents
Experience in and commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency and seeking, continually, greater levels of diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and curricula
Familiarity with classroom technology is preferred
Professionalism, sense of humor, and a student centered approach
