SUMMARY:
Masters seeks a mathematics teacher that is passionate about math as a discipline and is eager to teach middle-school aged children. This position offers ample opportunities to design curriculum that will inspire students and to collaborate with peers. Particular attention will be paid to candidates that have leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to deepen students’ mathematical thinking skills through a variety of student-centered pedagogical practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach four sections of mathematics (possible range of courses is from fifth grade through Geometry).
Serve as a grade level advisor to a group of students
Perform lunch duty and other duties as assigned
Attend grade level team, department and Middle School faculty meetings
Participate in the life of the Middle School by attending activities and events including morning meeting, student presentations, performances, games and culminating events
Work with students after school on math enrichment or support
REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated mathematical knowledge across grade levels and content strands
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students
Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Commitment to effective collaboration with colleagues and the ability to take initiative and effectively work independently
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficiency in the use of technology
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, education or related fields; Master’s degree preferred
Prior experience with middle school and/or upper school students
Familiarity with and willingness to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches preferred
