Hopkins School, an independent, gender-inclusive, college-preparatory day school in New Haven, Connecticut, with over 700 students in grades 7-12, is seeking a computer science teacher, as we build our program toward opening the transformational Gibbs Center for Innovation in fall 2028.

The position includes teaching four sections of computer science or three sections of computer science and a section of math based on course enrollments. This full-time position also includes contributing to the student experience outside of the classroom, such as coaching a sport or academic team (matched with the candidate’s skills and experience) or working with students in the Academic Support Program. 

Full-time faculty members typically serve as an adviser for a group of 6-8 students in one grade; attend department, grade-level adviser, and faculty meetings; maintain verbal and written professional contact with students, colleagues and families; serve on one faculty committee; chaperone after-school student events; participate in the broader life of the School; and, support the school community by setting a positive example in all areas of school life.

An ideal candidate will:

• Demonstrate strong proficiency in Python and experience with C/C++ or another statically typed language
• Have experience teaching one or more of the following: object-oriented programming, software design/development, data science programming, or web development
• Mentor students through sustained software projects, including the use of version control and collaborative development practices
• Contribute to the continued evolution of the curriculum and help shape the long-term vision of computer science at Hopkins (help redesign curriculum, develop a competitive CS team)
• Demonstrate a commitment to student-centered learning and intellectual curiosity
• Collaborate joyfully with colleagues in designing meaningful learning experiences 
• Possess cultural proficiency in the classroom and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Teach and learn with the curiosity and enthusiasm they hope to cultivate in their students

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred. Secondary school teaching experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with post-secondary teaching experience will be considered.
