Job summary A full-time faculty member at Asheville School contributes to all aspects of boarding school life. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership in afternoon programs, guidance as an advisor, and active engagement as a member of a residential duty team. Faculty are expected to model professionalism, curiosity, and openness to growth, serving as vital role models who support and inspire students both in and out of the classroom.
Summary of essential job functions
Teach four sections of your discipline in a seven-period rotation.
Participate in two out of three seasons of afternoon activities & athletics.
Serve as an advisor.
Serve as a member of a residential duty team, including the possibility of living in one of our residential halls.
Serve as an integral part of our campus community, enthusiastically helping where needed.
Stay abreast of changing pedagogies and educational technologies.
Participate in professional development and professional growth opportunities.
Model flexibility, curiosity, and life-long learning.
Participate in Blues Core, Winterim, and Saturday Programming.
Support the School’s mission, vision, and values.
Other duties as assigned.
Asheville School seeks a qualified English teacher who will also be an impactful athletic coach in our afternoon programs. Specific coaching needs include basketball, tennis, lacrosse, volleyball.
Skills and Abilities required
Minimum of bachelor’s degree and expertise in subject area.
Experience working with middle and / or high school-age individuals / groups preferred.
Strong written and communication skills.
Self-motivated with attention to both tasks and people.
Strong technology skills.
Flexibility, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working in a residential boarding school environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and persevere.
Ability to engage learners in the subject area and serve as a role model.
Demonstrate empathy, respect, and trustworthiness.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Successfully complete a criminal and motor vehicle background check.
Anyone over the age of 18 year old who will be house on campus with the faculty member will need to successfully complete a criminal background check.
