Overview

Oakhill Day School is seeking a highly motivated, knowledgeable, and passionate School Librarian for the 26/27 school year. The ideal candidate will promote a love of reading in students 18 months-8th grade. We are seeking an individual who is knowledgeable in children’s and young adult literature, is dedicated to managing library resources, is passionate about promoting literacy and supporting student research skills, and seeks to be an innovative collaborator. 

Part-time, contracted for the school year with opportunities to teach in the summer program.

Responsibilities

• Develop, acquire, and maintain the library collection

• Oversee circulation, cataloging and inventory

• Support students and faculty in how to effectively use and access the library and its resources

• Plan and deliver library lessons that foster a love of reading and promote literacy

• Teach information literacy, research skills and promote digital citizenship

• Contribute in providing library programming, such as author visits, book fairs and reading initiatives, to the school community

• Ensure that the library space is welcoming, organized, and is seen as a space of inquiry and collaboration

• Collaborate with colleagues to support the written curriculum and research skills

• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues to promote reading and lifelong learning

• Participate in faculty meetings, school events, and professional development

• Contribute to the broader life of the school community

Professional Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Studies, or a similar field strongly preferred
• Experience in library services
• Passion for literature
• Knowledge Elementary & Middle School library structure
• Knowledge of best practices in library services and programs
• Relevant teaching or professional experience
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent organization skills
• Demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a growth mindset
