With a student body of 390 young women from 75 communities in the Bronx, Queens, and Westchester County in New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut, Holy Child’s inclusive community prepares graduates to think critically, act compassionately, and lead confidently in a diverse and interconnected society.
Holy Child seeks an experienced religious studies teacher. This multi-grade position may include middle school courses in Scripture and Church History as well as upper school courses in diverse subjects (e.g., Social Justice, World Religions, and Ethics). Ideal candidates are able to teach one or more of the aforementioned courses and are passionate educators who value interdisciplinary teaching and creative learning experiences. A Holy Child teacher will have the resources of a supportive department and an established curriculum; however, he or she will have the opportunity to tailor or redesign a course to meet his/her interests and passions and the needs of the students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach five sections of middle school religious studies classes
Work with individual and small groups of students as needed
Collaborate with the religious studies department and humanities colleagues to design/map curriculum, create interdisciplinary opportunities for learning, share resources, and evaluate effective methods of teaching; participate in regular meetings with the Department Chair
Work with the Learning Center to support students with learning differences
Show a commitment to community and belonging work
Communicate professionally and compassionately with every member of the community: students, families, and colleagues alike
Attend and participate in parent conferences and school events
Communicate regularly and effectively with Division Heads and student support team about student progress
Participate in grade-level and school-wide meetings as needed
Engage with new technologies and methodologies for teaching and assessing
Possibly work with students in Grades 5-12 through clubs/teams or advisory
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in theology preferred
1-3 years Middle and Upper School teaching experience preferred
Enthusiastic about working in an all-girls Catholic school with a strong mission
Experience teaching similar religious studies content is required
Experience with advising middle and upper school students is preferred
Passionate and knowledgeable about progressive education, problem-based teaching, and learning and differentiation
Strong planning and organizational skills
A good collegial spirit
Coupled with these credentials, the candidate will have a strong understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills, with attention to detail. In addition, candidates with experience in an all-girls, faith-based school and those who will embrace our School's mission of developing women of conscience and action are preferable.
