Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 300 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a 2nd Grade Primary School Co-Teacher (Parental Leave). This position reports to the Primary School Director and is a member of the Primary School Division.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in elementary education or a related field.
A minimum of 1 to 3 years of teaching experience.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of elementary-age students.
Well-versed in best practices for delivering language arts, mathematics, and social studies instruction.
Experience with Responsive Classroom and a commitment to progressive education.
The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
A commitment to inquiry and project-based learning.
Training in Orton-Gillingham preferred.
Wholehearted support of the mission and core values of the school.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Cultivate and sustain a community of learners in the classroom where each individual is honored and respected.
Implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate math, language arts, and social studies curriculum.
Co-lead morning meetings using a Responsive Classroom approach.
Be attuned to each student’s academic progress, social-emotional skills, and positive identity development.
Communicate effectively with students and families.
Partner with parents to effectively educate their students.
Collaborate with other classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The Expected Salary Range: $60,000 - $110,000 (Prorated)
