North Shore Country Day — a progressive, academically rigorous, co-ed, JK?12 independent school near Chicago — seeks candidates for an upper school mathematics teacher opening beginning at the start of the 2026-27 Academic Year. While a bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should have experience teaching a broad range of Upper School mathematics courses. North Shore is eager to consider applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in independent school communities.
We seek candidates with three or more years of experience, demonstrated passion and talent in engaging students in mathematics, and a commitment to working collaboratively as part of our mathematics department. At North Shore, we challenge students to “Live and Serve” - leading and contributing as ethical global citizens. Students develop toward this ideal by learning to think critically, approach challenges with creativity, engage with others equitably, care genuinely, and communicate in multiple ways. These five pillars of skills also speak to the core of learning mathematics: building one's capacity to think deeply about simple things in a community of learners. Our courses teach students much more than content: they teach students how to engage in mathematical inquiry.
Ideal candidates will be believers and cultivators of the “growth mindset,” excellent written and oral communicators, collaborative and valued colleagues, and lifelong learners who are committed to ongoing professional development. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, have invested in growing their intercultural competencies, and whose teaching practice—inside and outside the classroom—reflect those competencies. Candidates should be skilled integrators of 21st century technology into their teaching practice.
Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter specific to the role at NSCD, a resume, a written statement detailing their philosophy/approach to their work, and a listing of professional references.
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$90,000. North Shore provides an excellent employee benefits program, including health and retirement benefits, tuition support for children’s attendance at North Shore, and professional development funding to support summer study, attendance at conferences/workshops, travel and advanced degree work. Our Purpose:
We prepare students with a challenging education that requires them to think critically, communicate effectively and engage fully in their intellectual growth and personal development. In doing so, they become self-confident, ethical citizens of the world who embody our motto, "Live and Serve."
Our Promise:
When we were founded in 1919, North Shore Country Day was the visionary answer to a fundamental question:
What matters most when educating a child? Continually refining our answer to that question and evolving our program propels us forward with purpose and passion.
