Charleston Collegiate School (CCS) is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian day school serving students from PS through 12th grade. Situated on a picturesque 30-acre campus of playing fields, wooded trails, and an Outdoor Education Center, CCS is located on Johns Island, just 20 minutes from Charleston’s historic district and the beach resorts of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands.
Founded in 1970, CCS fosters a challenging and supportive learning community that recognizes, nurtures, and challenges its diverse student body. Organized into Lower School (PS-5), Middle School (6-8), and Upper School (9-12), the school’s mission is to empower students through a student-centered approach that emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and individuality. With approximately 410 students, CCS is Charleston’s only independent PS-12 school of its kind, providing a unique education grounded in the pillars of project-based learning, entrepreneurship, arts and creativity, and outdoor education. Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in literacy, numeracy, science, and social studies. Lessons should integrate cross-curricular elements, critical thinking, and hands-on activities.
Tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of emerging learners, using data-driven methods to inform teaching practices and monitor progress in line with academic standards.
Infuse CCS’s values - empathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacy - into daily lessons and interactions to build character and citizenship from the ground up.
Leverage the school’s outdoor campus to engage students in exploration, environmental studies, and experiential learning opportunities that connect classroom content to the natural world.
Establish an organized, safe, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes creativity, independence, communication, and problem-solving.
Partner with colleagues to align curriculum across grade levels and share interdisciplinary teaching strategies.
Maintain professional and effective communication with families to celebrate student successes and collaboratively address challenges.
Facilitate community-based projects that help students see the impact of their learning within the broader local community.
Participate in professional development, implement best practices in elementary education, and contribute to the vibrant, collaborative culture of CCS.
Qualification Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
Good working knowledge of Google Suite; efficient typing, email, database, and spreadsheet skills.
Current in advanced First-Aid training or equivalent.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with a dedication to high confidentiality and professional imaging.
High-energy, enthusiastic, and technologically savvy.
Detail-oriented, able to exercise sound judgment, and capable of managing multiple projects while maintaining regular and timely attendance.
