Position Summary:
CSW seeks an Accounting Specialist to join its Business Office. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for a variety of tasks within the Business Office, including accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and reporting. In addition to supporting the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as needed, the Accounting Specialist assists with monthly and year-end closing procedures, ensures the accuracy of financial data, and maintains compliance with internal controls.
Essential Functions
Manages accounts receivable and student records through the online tuition management platform, FACTS. Communicates with parents and guardians; makes account adjustments; posts journal entries; and reconciles receivable activity with the general ledger. Monitors receivable aging reports.
Manages payroll records in ADP. Processes bi-weekly payroll, inputs payroll activity and employment data, and communicates with and provides assistance to employees.
Maintains and balances sub-ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
Maintains Balance Sheet accounts with monthly reconciliations, resolving discrepancies, and creating journal entries.
Assists the CFO with financial reports needed for Board Committee meetings.
Assists with the annual financial audit, Form 990, and MA state tax returns.
Recommends and drafts policies and procedures related to job processes.
Communicates in a timely fashion with faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians, as needed.
Assists with special projects as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 5-7 years of experience in non-profit accounting. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar financial management software.
Technological Tools and Processes
Recognizes the importance of having strong skills to facilitate work. Can learn and reproduce the current processes and recommend best practices to streamline them.

Manages many tasks and projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and promises. Able to ascertain which people may need immediate assistance and to act accordingly.
Organizational Skills A high degree of organization is required to manage workflow. Attention to detail is required.
Communications and Customer Service Strong and responsive customer service skills that demonstrate empathy and reflect the ethos of the school. Able to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, and capable of contributing in a team environment.

Ability to solve routine problems as they arise.
Confidentiality
Must maintain confidentiality regarding all information handled in the Business Office.
Working Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet; however, variations in noise level may occur when the employee attends school functions such as assemblies, school dances, and other events.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to listen, physically direct, and speak. The employee is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
