Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Knowledge and ability to teach core courses such as World History, U.S. History, Economics, Honors History Seminar and Social Science classes.
Design evidence-based lesson plans and innovative curricula that balance rigorous academic standards with student social-emotional growth.
Create a vibrant learning environment where students are encouraged to thrive and take intellectual risks.
Ability to differentiate instruction for a diverse range of learners, collaborating with the Learning Support Specialist to implement accommodations specified in student learning profiles.
Participate meaningfully in various aspects of student life, including serving as a student advisor and supporting clubs, coaching, or student organizations.
Act as a positive and contributing member of the Bentley community, embodying the school’s core values of compassion, respect, and integrity.
Actively support the student body by attending a variety of student events—including athletic games, arts performances, and school showcases—both during the school day and during off-hours (evenings/weekends).
Attend required evening and weekend special events, such as Curriculum Nights, Open Houses, and graduation ceremonies.
Work collaboratively with administration, grade-level teachers, specialists, and advisors to ensure a cohesive student experience.
Participate in regular subject team meetings, weekly History Department meetings, and general faculty or grade-level meetings.
Communicate effectively and empathetically with parents through formal and informal conferences, written progress reports, newsletters, and other school-approved channels.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Science, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
3–5 years of teaching experience in an independent school or secondary environment.
Must possess high energy, a sense of humor, and the flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced educational setting.
Ability to work with students in large and group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students.
Proficiency in using a variety of learning systems and integrating educational technology to enhance classroom instruction.
Pay Range:
Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary scale for this position ranges from $70,000 for teachers with no prior teaching experience to $140,000 for teachers with over 40 years of prior experience.
