Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), an elite ski academy located in East Burke, VT is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist for the 2026-27 school year. For over 50 years, BMA has championed ski racers' pursuit of greatness, innovating one of the world's premier alpine ski racing programs. BMA’s academic program is individualized and fully integrated within the athletic and cultural goals to support the holistic development of world-class skiers. The program values critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, learning from failure, and strong communication skills across all subjects to foster lifelong learning in students. Ideal BMA faculty members embody hard work, patience, and curiosity and are deeply engaged in all aspects of the BMA community. 

The Learning Specialist at BMA leads the Learning Support program, a tutorial designed to help students become active participants in their academic careers. It serves as a resource for students with documented learning differences, executive functioning gaps, or those for whom English is a second language. The ultimate goal is to meet students where they are and help them develop the skills necessary to be independently successful in their future academic endeavors. The Learning Specialist at BMA also has the opportunity to teach core and elective courses in their area of experience and interest, and lead student and residential life programming.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Build supportive, trusting relationships with students to develop effective and individualized learning strategies 
• Read neuropsych testing documents and identify proper intervention and accommodations
• Support English Language Learners in integrating into the BMA academic program
• Collaborate and update families and teachers with student progress and needs
• Manage standardized testing (ACT/SAT) and accommodations  
• Write narrative evaluations for Learning Support students
• Teach core or elective courses and/or lead student life and residential life programming
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or related field, and at least one year of high school teaching experience.

About Burke Mountain Academy

Founded in 1970, Burke Mountain Academy is a private, college preparatory ski academy with a 30-acre campus on Burke Mountain. The school enrolls roughly 65 students in grades 8-12 and all students are competitive ski racers who balance a rigorous athletic and academic schedule. The school also hosts a thriving junior program as well as two post-graduate programs and has a relationship with an alpine ski racing program in Oslo, Norway. Each year, the size of the graduating class ranges between 15 to 20 students. Female/male enrollment is roughly equal and we have a significant cohort of international students. Since its founding, Burke Mountain Academy has provided narrative evaluations in lieu of grades. These are comprehensive, detailed, and candid.
