Founded in 1908, Lancaster Country Day School is an independent school that uniquely houses preschool through 12th grade under one roof. Position Summary
The Director of the Office of Community Engagement and Belonging is responsible for developing strong relationships with faculty, students, parents, administrators, and trustees to facilitate dialogue, problem-solving, and strategic planning regarding diverse identities, backgrounds and perspectives. The Director cultivates respectful conversations that flow across campus and into the greater community, building partnerships that enhance student understanding of their local environment and connects LCDS to the greater community and network of independent schools.
Education: Bachelor’s degree plus a master’s degree or a minimum of two years of work in building community and belonging in a school or university setting
Experience: At least three to five years of full-time classroom teaching experience is strongly preferred
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead adults and students individually and in groups
Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills; capacity to work in a high-functioning, collaborative, and innovative environment
Disposition: Comfort and enthusiasm for working with students in Pre-School through Grade 12 and a commitment to acting on constructive feedback
Key Responsibilities & Functions
Student Engagement & Belonging
Advising & Support: Serve as an academic advisor to a cohort of students and lead Middle and Upper School student affinity groups, such as the BSU, LatinX Club, Asian Student Union, and Muslim Students Association.
Curriculum & Instruction: Deliver school-wide lessons and support faculty in developing inclusive curricula across all divisions.
Leadership Development: Formally establish and oversee Student Diversity Councils in all three divisions (Community Helpers in LS; MS/US Diversity Leadership Councils).
Student Experience: Use survey data to gather data on the student experience.
Conferences & Trips: Facilitate student attendance at national and local conferences (NAIS, Tower Hill LEAD).
Community & Parent Engagement
External Partnerships: In partnership with Division Heads, maintain and expand the Penn Fellows Intern Program and connect with local universities to enhance the teacher recruitment pipeline.
Parent Collaboration: Lead the Parent Diversity Council and collaborate with the Parent Association to host community events like Multicultural Night and represent the school at local Pride events.
Service Learning: Lead the Outstanding Community Service (OCS) program, linking service with social equity with local partners like "Off the Streets".
Outreach: Serve on the Horizons at LCDS Board and represent the school on regional committees such as the ADVIS DEIB Roundtable.
Staff Engagement & Professional Development
Leadership: Manage the Division Liaison program to ensure faculty voices are embedded in office initiatives.
Professional Growth: With Division Heads, highlight and coordinate DEIB professional learning communities and opportunities.
Resource Development: Maintain and share a collection of resources related to diverse identities, backgrounds and perspectives.
Administrative Leadership
Strategic Planning: Serve as a member of the Administrative Team and assist in the recruiting, hiring, and retaining of diverse faculty and staff.
Budgeting: Manage the departmental budget for the Office of Community Engagement and Belonging.
