Founded in 1957, Catholic Memorial is a Catholic, private school in Boston, Massachusetts, grounded in the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers tradition. It serves approximately 600 young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts.
Position Overview
Reporting directly to the Principal, the Vice Principal of Middle School leads the student experience for approximately 150 middle school students and ensures that the daily life of the school reflects Catholic Memorial’s mission to form young men of faith, intellect, and character.
The Vice Principal of Middle School works closely with members of the Principal’s Team (Vice Principal of Grades 9-12; Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning; Vice Principal of Academic Operations; Vice Principal of Mission; Director of Campus Ministry; Director of Counseling and Student Success; Director of Athletics) to ensure that the academic, co-curricular, and relational experiences of middle school students contribute to their intellectual growth, spiritual development, personal formation, and overall readiness for high school.

Primary Responsibilities
Middle School Program Leadership
Lead the vision and sustain the excellence of the middle school program in the education and formation of early adolescent boys as an expression of Catholic Memorial’s Edmund Rice mission.
Direct middle school faculty and programming, ensuring a cohesive, mission-aligned approach to instruction and student formation.
Oversee the coherence and quality of the middle school academic experience in collaboration with the Vice Principal of Teaching and Learning, ensuring alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with CM’s Excellent Teaching & Learning Standards.
Partner with parents and families to ensure meaningful academic, formative, and co-curricular engagement.
Student Life Leadership
Provide strategic leadership for the student life program in the middle school, including discipline, student programming, leadership development, and co-curricular life.
Oversee a student-centered disciplinary system that is restorative, formative, and aligned with the mission of the school.
Facilitate key formation and transition experiences, including orientations, Community Period programming, major student events, and the grade 8 transition to high school, to ensure students are academically prepared and formed for success in high school.
Maintain a visible and engaged presence among students and faculty to promote a positive and mission-driven school culture.
Assists the Student Affairs Coordinator in the facilitation of the attendance system and student supervision.
Mission & Student Formation
Advance Catholic Memorial’s mission and the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice by fostering a culture of brotherhood, faith, and respect among middle school students.
Ensure that the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice education are reflected in the daily life, expectations, and formation of students.
Collaborate with Campus Ministry and school leadership to support retreats, liturgies, service opportunities, and faith formation programs.
Pastoral Care & Student Support
Work collaboratively with Counseling and Student Success, Campus Ministry and Co-Curriculars to support the spiritual, emotional, and academic well-being of students.
Promote student leadership opportunities that form young men as responsible leaders and servants of others.
Serve as a key relationship and resource for students and families regarding matters related to student life and formation.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Curriculum, Educational Leadership, School Administration, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of teaching or administrative experience in middle or secondary education
Demonstrated success in leading and developing administrative teams
Proven ability to contribute strategically to institutional planning and operations across multiple functional areas
Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the ability to articulate and advance the Catholic mission
Deep understanding of adolescent male development and effective strategies for educating young men
Proven experience in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and student formation
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders — students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community
Willingness and ability to maintain a robust presence at school events, including evenings and weekends, demonstrating commitment to the full life of the school community
Salary Range: $90,000-$115,000
